BMW Reliability?
So I was pulling up to the Honda service area, around 7:30 a.m. today, and to do that you drive past BMW's and then Porsche's area first. There was one 911 in at that time and 9 BMW's!!! They were all current generation cars. So are the new BMW's really that bad? I couldn't believe seeing a line that long compared to all the other companies that are in that building. I guess I will not buy a BMW in the near future.
No necessarily. BMW's get a full maintenance program for the first 4 years of their lives. This means any BMW owner can go into a dealership, get topped on fluids, get an oil change, get wipers changed, rotate tires, etc.
BMW's coming back to the dealership is a good thing for the company. Owners keep a relationship with the dealer, they get exposed to new product, service records are tracked for the cars (keeps resale value high), and the BMW engineers can track accurately how cars are wearing and tearing through service repair and maintenance.
If you re-call, the laast generation 3-series (e46) was one of the most popular cars to own in middle America. BMW didn't advertise ad nauseam like Ford, GM, Toyota, and Honda had done. Even now, while watching TV or listening to the radio, you're quite unlikely to see/hear a BMW commercial.
I love our BMW, however, unless it's an M3, I doubt very much that I'd buy another one. It's been a great car, it's just that I like to mod and work on my own cars. Modding the BMW is $$$$, and working on one is just as $$$$ and quite a bit more complex (at least the electrical system).

One of Illinois' best damn dealerships and sevice centers (at least for Honda).
They typically never sell cars for over MSRP (even the S2000 back in 2000 and 2001).
Their Honda service center is top notch. Ed Wong and Elliont Faulkner (now with Mercedes Benz) always took VERY good care of me, my wife, my parents, and my sister when we all took our respective Hondas in. Oh yeah, they took great care of our cars as well!
Their BMW service center has much room for improvement. They do good work, but missed deadlines (multiple times), and warranty/non-warranty claims told to me were NOT consistent with my invoice statement. I went in with two complaints, loud knocking in my right, front suspension and no cold air from the A/C. After inspection, they call me at work and tell me that I was going to have to replace lower control arm (at my cost including labor), and the A/C would be taken care of by warranty. Inspection charge would be apart of my non-warranty work if I decided to get the work done. Final quote was for $850. I let them do the work. I get my invoice, it's for $850. They invoiced me for the inspection, the labor for both the suspension and A/C work. They warrantied the parts. I didn't complain....I was expecting to pay $850. I believe there was some "games" that were being played between the dealership and BMW NA.
I went home to look for inconsistencies with any of my Motorwerks Honda invoices on my S2000, CR-V, and my sister's Accord. There were none! If you have to take your S2000 in for service, I emplore you to talk to Ed Wong at Motorwerks and get your car taken car of at least once by them.

However, I am Mr. Negative, but they stripped out my Civic's oil pan during an oil change, one that was juts replaced by them 6 months prior.
It's hit or miss with any place, but at least with Motorwerks, if you make a stink over a problem, they listen.

Keeps the resale value.
