Default Indianapolis S2000 mechanic?

Well I've finally did it - Bought the car I've wanted since I sat in one at the Indianapolis Auto Show in the year 2000! I bought an 06 Sebring Silver in February with 56k on it. Any other S2000 owners in Indy with tips on a good mechanic to take it to? - Either a dealer or a reputable garage, just hope to find someone cost effective who is familiar with the S2000s that I can trust? - Thanks

Hi archyclm,

Congratulations on the purchase. We've had our '06 Suzuka just over a year now and love it. Welcome.

Although I work in downtown Indy and often drive the S in on nice days, I can't really speak to the Indy area dealers / mechanics. I've had good luck with service at Victory Honda in Muncie. I've only had service done one other place (Tom Wood in Anderson) but won't be going back there (long story).

I don't really know but one other area owner. She might have some thoughts. I'll ask.

Enjoy,

Rex

I don't know of any S2000 specialists in the area but I would recommend Car Tech on the Southside of Indy. I take all three of my cars (87 300ZX, 94 Seville & 01 S2K) there and have never been disappointed. However, they are not the cheapest at roughly $95/hour I believe.

Thanks Rex,

I just love it! definitely glad I bought it...Yeah have been curious as to how many other S2000 owners there are in town, what area they are in and what they have so I can keep an eye out for them - Sounds like you have a nice one on the south side. I work on north Keystone with a window that looks out to the road, and have noticed only one red AP1 go past in the past few months...

Yeah mine isn't that high on the miles, but it is 10 years old...anxious to have it looked at and at least change any fluids that are old. I'll let you know when and who I take it to when I do...

Thanks

Thanks Dr Dave...I'll keep that in mind - its worth paying a bit extra for good work sometimes....Love the mid-late 80s 300zx. Had a gray 85 back 10 years or so ago...with Ttops and the digital dash. was a nice car but the auto transmission got to the point where is was really slow to shift before warmed up - Loved it otherwise

Archyclm: Allow me to also offer my congratulations on your recent S2K purchase! I'm in Indy, live near North Keystone and a little surprised you haven't seen me. I'm the original owner of a 2002 Suzuka Blue. The Honda is, in my humble opinion, the perfect sports car. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. To date, with 67,000 miles, the only non-maintenance service has been the replacement of the hydraulic clutch mechanism.

Regarding service providers... I purchased it new @ Honda West and they have been its exclusive service provider. They are now Honda of Fishers. I was actually on this site looking for the recommendations of an S2K specialist. As the car gets on in years, I figure the people at the dealership are increasingly unlikely to have any experience with this particular model. Still, they are a Honda dealer so I'm hoping they will at least be able to access OEM resources. I remain open for suggestions.

Again, congrats on the purchase. Enjoy!

Thanks BSatHome! - I am enjoying it, even more than I thought I would - I do have the feeling I'm driving something special when in it. Its great you bought yours new and have kept it so long!. I'm surprised I haven't seen you either. I'm guessing I will at some point this summer.

I did take it in to a mechanic today...I've had a check engine light on and needed to have that looked at - I gave the mechanic that has serviced my truck for the past few years, as well as my coworker and his family, a call. Didn't know if he would be interested in working on an S2K, but he said he has worked on a couple before and that he would take a look at it. And I'm glad I did. I'm very comfortable taking it there. Hopkins Automotive on East 62nd & Binford. I think he works on Hondas quite a bit and knows them well. Over time have learned that he is trustworthy & honest, doesn't do any more work than is needed, doesn't pad the invoice with extras, and does so at a reasonable cost. Turns out the code was for an air / fuel sensor. He cleared the code just as a test thinking that maybe it came on as a fluke, and didn't charge a diagnostic fee. Although the light did come back on driving home. Looks like I'll be looking into replacing one of those. But yeah, I'd recommend him and the crew there to you and others that see this....

As to if there is more of an S2K specialist in town...don't know, guessing that person doesn't exist, although if so I would like to know as well!

Hi archyclm - Glad to hear you are still enjoying your S.

I did check with the other owner I mentioned and she and her husband got there's at Indy Honda and have it serviced there. She really didn't know of any S specialist mechanics though.

I hope you get your code issue resolved. High miles or low, it's never fun having a check engine light come on. That was my issue with the first place I went for service. It was reading as a misfire, but their "mechanic" said there was no sign of a misfire. I can't recall what he said he changed, but said the problem was most likely a "glitch" in the electronics. If it continued, he wanted to look at changing the coil pack.

Light did come back about 100 miles later. I called to get the car back in and they couldn't get to it for a week or more, they said they had no loaner, nor could / would they offer to shuttle me 20 miles to my home. I was p'oed and called Victory. They got me right in, got me a loaner on the spot, and found the misfire code was rear and not a glitch but a serious compression problem. A top end rebuild later (covered by a warrant from the place I bought it) and all was good. Had I trusted the "glitch" diagnosis, who knows what I would have been into.
