The roads themselves, well, I have to agree with Tachus. However, there are some nice scenic drives only because we have plenty of shoreline (both inland and great lakes) and decent fall colors. Beware of broken gravel and potholes that will eat an S.

E-brake,
You can cross into Canada either by the Windsor tunnel or the Ambassador bridge. I'm not sure how much the toll is these days as I rarely venture into Canada anymore. Plus the US to Canadian dollar exchange isn't really in our favor these days. Also, make sure you bring your passport if you want to get into Canada.

Downtown Windsor has a lot of neat restuarants. I'm particularly fond a little Chinese place called Ho Wak Garden that serves a traditional Dim Sum. It's a little hole in the wall but the food is awesome.

I have been to Toronto a few times and that's a great place to stay as well but it's about a 4 hour drive from the Metro Detroit area. Other than that I'm not much help on Canada.

Regards,
Christopher

Back in the days when it was favorable, it made an awesome weekend get away -- alot bang for the buck. Nowadays, it's almost the reverse. However, I think the orginal question was more with regard to the roads, which as far as I know are no better than Michigan, plus people drive slower with relatively slower speed limits

Well since I live in Canada and travel back and forth to work I can tell you that the toll is $4, the roads in Windsor are somewhat shitty but not nearly as bad as the ones in detroit, I swear I saw a smart car disappear in a pot hole the other day. The only other place that I have traveled to in Canada was London and its a pretty straight forward drive.

Sweet, at least that pothole has now been "patched". And, quite a smart job they've done at patching it I might say; unlike the usual shitty work by the road crews.
