Yeah, I think that's a good plan.
I'll check with the Ohio folks.

We are planning on coming up for this. We have a room booked at the Courtyard Marriott downtown, it's only 150 a night. Check that out.

Anyone in the area recommend any good places to eat Friday night?

I live 15-20 minutes from Detroit; so, my wife and I will likely go to the show at doors open on Saturday regardless of whether or not we have an s2ki group interest. And, if there is interest in meeting for dinner on Friday night, we'd definitely be game for that as well.
I apologize for not recognizing the screen name, but have we met mmoore9700?
I can definitely suggest a lot of different places to eat depending on what type of food you are looking for. The last two years, when people came up from Ohio, I think we had Friday dinner at Pegasus (Greek) and then Fishbones (seafood), both in Greektown. I like Detroit Beer Company, they are a brewpub near the Broadway people mover stop, I like their beer and their food if you are in the mood for that. I also love Pizza Papalis (in Greektown) if you like Chicago style deep dish pizza. I also like Cliff Bells (if you are into some Motown Jazz), but it looks like they are closed Friday for a private event.
If you are willing to get in a car for a short ride, Slows (BBQ), Green Dot Stables (creative sliders), Traffic Jam & Snug (emphasis on local flavors), and Union Street (just good American), are probably my favorite restaurants in Downtown/Midtown Detroit, but none of them are walking or people mover distance from Cobo or Courtyard unfortunately.

No we have not met, name is Mike. I meet some of the Ohio guys this past summer at the Mid Ohio Indy race (Mocky, Jho and sam_spider(MI)). Mocky is the one that shot me a text about a group maybe going to the show. My Wife and I were going to go anyway so figure if a group was going that it would be fun.
We would be interested in a group dinner if people wanted to. We like food and beer, not to picky.
