I think this may be a DIY for me. Following the quote mentioned above, I ended up adjusting the valves myself on my CRX before I discovered the real problem; so, I have one prior experience doing it (and I didn't break anything). From reading the DIY thread, it doesn't look too much different on this car; so, I think I am capable. The only cost to me should be the cost of the gasket (well, I may just replace the spark plugs anyway since I'm in the area).
If you did a CRX then an S2000 will be CAKE.

Just buy the snap on tool. It is not NEEDED because the adjusters are above the head/head cover line so its way easier. (One of the reasons the K series / F series head covers are much taller than the old B and D covers.

Most important gasket to change would be the spark tube seals, which I hope they did on Sam's car but usually the gaskets are sold in a kit.

The big one that goes around the bottom of the head cover can usually last taking the head cover off a lot but its the ones that go on the spark plug tubes that can lose their seal and cause oil to get on the spark plug and sometimes this will loosen it.

Thanks for the confidence inspiring words. Yeah, I didn't think the b-series was too difficult, but I did end up somehow cutting myself on the sharp edge of the cylinder head. Left a very small but permanent scar on the first knuckle of my right thumb. Hopefully, I can avoid injuries if I tackle this project while my car is stored for the winter. Maybe the fact that the adjuster's are above the head line, as you mentioned, will be of particular benefit to myself. In any event, hopefully, we have some more driving time before I'm forced to park my car for the winter also.

Marc, IIRC, it took me about an afternoon to double check all 16 valves on my CRX. I think it could be done in an hour like hondamike indicated, but I'm likely to go much slower than that. And the total time will depend on whether the valves are really out of spec.

You can come watch me do it on my car, but I don't plan on tackling my own until well after thanksgiving, probably even after the new year. I'll let you know.

I'm also willing to help on your car whenever you want. An equavalent exchange of detailing help sounds awesome too!

Hi Mike - You might want to check with the dealership you work at, cause they charge $129.95 for a valve adjustment on an 2000.

Mine was at Art Moehn in Jackson,
You are a braver man than me. You may have a friend or two there but there's no way that dealership is touching my car. I've never had a good experience with them in the service area. Here's just one example. A few years ago I had an alarm pop up, took the S2000 in to get a reading off their code reader. They could not figure out where to plug it in at! They wanted to take the dash apart. No f'n way. I went home, pulled out my service manual, looked it up, returned and showed them where the slot was. They had the exact same manual in their hands when they couldn't find the slot. After getting the code I fixed the problem myself. If I were to need dealership assistance I'd go to Ann Arbor, even if it cost more.

I hope they solved your problem. If it returns, and it were me, I'd rethink where to go.

That's pretty scary, I must say though, my friend who works there did know exactly where the plug was.
