Thoughts for IMPROVING the community
Can I get my 20 bucks back??
I haven't read the whole thread, but as a not-very-active member for the past 4 years I figured I'll put my 2 cents in.
My first involvement wasn't even it a meet, it was buying some parts from a member down in Chicago that was really enthusiastic about the group. I too am more of an introvert and didn’t really like showing up to meets by myself in the beginning
I noted the next meet this Chicago owner was attending up in WI and attended, I knew someone that would introduce me.
Then I went WTD in ‘07 and everyone was friendly and inviting so I slowly started participating more when I got back. I am sure everyone has a different way into the group, but it takes effort on both people’s end.
The big turning point for me, was the thefts at last year’s KBAB (and I wasn’t even there). It really turned me off from hosting or organizing a meet. I really don’t want to associate with thieves, or have them at my house, and there is really no way to know who is to blame.
I don’t really have any answers or suggestions on how to get over the incident, but it was the big turn-off for me.
I’d also like to remind everyone, the CO position is a thankless job. What do the COs really get? Some practice at managerial and marketing skills, and a free membership? Maybe something to put on a resume.

I have been giving some thought to the idea of new people at meets.
Here are some guidelines: The person that starts the meet should introduce themself to everyone they don't know at the meet. They should also introduce every new person to ONE other person at the meet. It would kind of like be assigning a 'buddy.' The esablished member who is now the 'buddy' can introduce the new person to someone else, or hang out with that person throughout the meet. Either way that person will feel welcomed and invited in, and at least know SOMEONE.
It's still a rought idea, but it's something. Thoughts?

That meet was NOT private...in was publicly brought up at the previous Thursday night meet; this one:

Were you there? No...so be it. Also, I don't know where you get off where I must make a big broo-ha to have people over my house, especially after someone in the community stole from Keith and me just a year ago?
I've had enough open door events at my house and trusted the UMW community with 60+ people as a CO and as not. How open have you been with your place...as a past CO?
That day of trust is gone with the likes of what happened at last years KBAB and the rash of S2000 thefts that happened soon after....and with being talked bad about behind one's back constantly.
Really...you're propping yourself up to truly care for the community. All you care about is hate; in your jokes, in your criticism, in your elevation of self-worth...I can understand, you weren't popular in high-school, now's your time to shine.

reminder... respect, and think of the future, not the past.
Please, how can this thread turn into another "bash Luder94" thread by the usual suspects. I hate how I reacted, and for the fact that I reacted.
But I also hate that I haven't reacted before as a CO in order to be more diplomatic and allowed people to keep talking and spreading crap.
I'm hoping others see and acknowledge the repetitive criticism/attacks by the same three or four people that think they represent the community as a whole; they most definitely do not.
The idea that I was locking down SOOO many thread without opening debate to converse...is also false. I locked down two or three threads where Pete started his shit and I knew it'd go down the path this thread has (which walking a line as a diplomatic CO and trying to defend my reputation would be difficult), it should be easy to see why they were locked. Also, Pete's criticism had no value to the community...it never really has. Since the beginning he's always had negative criticism towards the majority without any positive feedback or alternative solutions...this just makes him a whiner in my book. All you have to do is search his posts in the UMW from the beginning and see how much bashing he does under the guise of 'just joking'.
Only when pointed out earlier in this thread has he had a couple of posts singing a different tune of praise and some ideas of reform and change.

4. Meets should be allowed on any night of the week; why this is even an issue in the first place? This is a valid request and necessary to promote member participation. I don’t care if some of you have you own meets via PM, nor do I care to join any type of “team” or “crew,” but I think a community event that happens once in a while is important. I didn’t join s2ki with the intention of making new friends that just happen to own an S2000, but that’s great if that happens and I don’t have any problem with using PM, email, text, or phone to communicate private events.
Maybe that was Pete's doing, I don't know.
Thursday night meets in the Chicagoland area have been pretty standard...that's the way it's been, and I hope that will continue.
