soft to install advice
So I'm finally getting started on installing my soft top tomorrow! I think I got most the necessary tools: Phillips, flathead, sideways screw driver, and rivet gun. If you could give one piece of advice to a rookie, what would it be?
Also I read that our cars have wear spots on frame of the top. Can you tell me what I should do to make sure they don't cut the new top, prematurely? Sorry I tried typing it in the search bar but I think because I'm using mobile it's so easy to find.

1) When you cut off the old top be very careful you don't cut the lower straps (you will need them).
2) Put a rag over the brushes when removing the rubber seals. If you drop a screw you will rattle forever. Take very careful note of how this area looks. This is THE most problematic part of every top I have done. Don't get frustrated it will take many tries to get the screw back in.....tight space to work.
3) Mark the orientation of the metal under the rubber seals (the slotted piece)
4) Use E6000 adhesive (get it at Michael's). They will haven idea what E6000 is so ask them for "bedazzling" adhesive to decorate cloths. Trust me it is the best! Weather proof....non hardening....tough as nails.
5) When you remove the rear tray trim keep them oriented or label them. Very similar in appearance but hole variations.
6) When you drill the bows use the smallest drill in the center of the rivet
7) remove the plastic plugs on the ends of the bows to blow out the drill shavings (quick puff of air like your shooting a blowgun). Put a towel on the exit side so you can collect the chips

Thank you so much for writing that up. I'm going to print off your comment to have it handy. I guess I won't be starting my top today because the storm just came in /: do you have a favorite soft top replacement write-up on the forums? I think there's a few different ones. I have a 2002 and bought the Robbins replacement. Should I just follow the cyclone write up? Or is there a better one for me?

The Cyclone 36 thread is the most definitive write up for the Robbins. Also check out the Clovis glass rear window conversion thread '00-02. Between the two you can figure it out. The only thing better is to do a few....but it just shortens the learning curve. If you have any questions drop me a PM.
