Default Cam's detailing/paint correction projects - Updated with sweet before/after vid!

This thread will be dedicated to all of the local member's rides that I detail - many of you have expressed interest in my work.

Any fellow members looking for proper paint correction/detailing, be sure to get in touch with me. I currently only do this for friends/family and referrals - not commercially! I don't have a website, registered business or anything of the sort.

August 10th Update - A video of a BB S2000 paint correction: http://vimeo.com/27210245

--------------------------------------------------

MARCH 20th 2011

My friend and I just tackled the most intense paint restoration project to date and thought it was worth sharing with you guys. This was one of our own member's (fys2k) 2005 Subaru Legacy GT Limited. The previous owner had taken horrible care of the paint, and he wanted to restore the finish, so we did.

24 hours later (2 of us,2 polishers, 12 hours total), we were satisfied with the outcome. We managed to pump this out in one day, but a very very long and tiring one.

Products Used:

Car - 2005 Subaru Legacy GT Limited
Wash - Dove Original (always used this to strip down any waxes)
Wheels - P21S wheel cleaner, Zaino tire shine
Glass - Stoner Invisible Glass (didn't have time for Zaino glass polish)
Clay - Riccardo Clay Original
Paint Correction - Makita 9227, Menzerna SIP with a variety of pads and 106FA with black pad
Trim/Engine Dressing - AutoGlym
LSP - Optimum Opti-Seal/P21S Concours

This was a complete inside and out detail. I did not focus on photographing the interior as it was already in good shape and didn't need much attention.

ENGINE BAY BEFORE/DURING/AFTER:

DISASTER STRIKES:

I have owned my Nikon D300 for a couple years now since new, and this was the first time I had ever dropped it. It was horrifying as it landed right on the tip of the lens, on concrete. It shattered the front hood, and UV filter into pieces. Miraculously the camera and lens still functioned perfectly, so I could still document the detail. Nikon FTW!

SURVEYING. WOW:

A 50/50 IN PROGRESS:

This was after a few passes with SIP. Getting there...

Finished hood with 106FA...

The amount of metallic/flake in the paint was unreal. Was completely invisible before.

ANOTHER 50/50 ON TRUNK LID:

Again after a few passes with SIP. Getting there...

Finished with 106FA...

COUPLE MORE AFTER SHOTS:

END PRODUCT:

Unfortunately it was 11pm by the time we finished the job up. We were so wiped, and didn't have anywhere to take shots. We drove to the Ikea underground lot, but they had shot off half of the lights. This was the best I could do handheld, with the lighting available

OWNER'S SHOTS!

fys2k was kind enough to take some shots of the car for me today. Unfortunately the weather wasn't the best, but this is what the car looks like after a day of driving in the rain
