enjoy yourself! get your mind off the CEL haha...you are missing out on beautiful weather back home though

I know weather back home has been nice but it's absolutely awesome here in Paris... food, drink, even cars spotting!!! I saw two different SLRs (one with softtop!!??!), Testarosa, countless other Ferrari, Bentley, Lambo, Porsche, Aston Martin... and ONE S2000 so far. Japanese cars are hard to come by over here...By the way, while I have put the CEL off my mind, I have heard/seen some iPhone add-on cable and software to turn it into a OBD2 scanner. Anyone with experience on that? Comment?
Thanks!
OK guys... got back in town couple days ago and I just called up a Honda dealership and asked about getting them to pull the fault code(s) for my CEL being on (staying on, not blinking). They want $70+taxes.
I don't want to go in to the Honda dealership and hand over my $ just for reading the code(s). So few questions before I decide my next step:
- Does anyone have a OBD2 reader I could borrow? Rent?
- Someone mentioned that some non-dealership shop would do this for free (or much less than a Honda dealership would). Anyone with any suggestion of such place?
- How about buying my own OBD2 reader? Any local shop I can get a decent one for decent price? Any particular brand/model of reader to look for?
I really don't intend to try to paperclip method (it's a neat little trick though). I am OK to consider buying a OBD2 reader myself that may also come in handy for down the road too on any of my cars or any of friends'/family's cars...
Please advise. Thanks guys!!

Update... in the end, I used the "paperclip" method (thanks to Al for his encouragement, haha...) but instead of a paperclip I used some old crappy speaker wire and cut a length to use as jumper wire.
I guess I do know what I am doing (at least more than what I thought I did). I didn't blow up my ECU and got the blinking light sequence on hand. It is 4-1, next step is to look it up on some table online I guess.
I also video-documented the blinking sequence, will post soon for you guys to help me verify that it is the 4-1 sequence
OK... looking up the meaning of 4-1 now. Fingers crossed it's something minor....

So the flashing light sequence 4-1 is:
P0135 4 - 1 --------------- Primary Heated Oxygen Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Sensor 1).
I am guessing it's not critical since it is warm/hot enough weather now and there's the secondary heated O2 sensor. But I WILL get it fixed, any experience and/or educated-guess on how much this repair will be? I know it may still depend on which component(s) need to be replaced (nowadays they don't repair parts anymore, right?) but ballpark figure?
In the meantime, do you guys think it is safe to drive a bit harder (i.e. my norm) such as sometimes WOT, VTEC and even occasional redline in 1st and/or 2nd... I am itching to VTEC under such awesome sunshine!!!

Here is the video recording I made of the CEL flashing sequence when I set the ECU into diagnostics mode per the "paperclip" DIY:

Does it look like the 4-1 code to you guys?
Thanks!

I would have skipped the speaker wire and used the paper clip because the wire will frey and you don't want it to touch something else by mistake.
But seeing as you did it and it worked, then let's move on.
Your code is to tell you that there is a fault in the front 02 sensor. Being that your car is an 07, check to see if it is properly plugged in.
Do not drive on it for an extended period of time unless you want to spend the money to replace the 02 sensor. We use a heated 02 sensor, I believe, and if it is not plugged in the sensor will get fouled up and will need to be replaced. Let me double check that one though, as I am not 100% we use a heated 02 sensor like my old Nissan's did.
Assuming it is a dead 02 sensor, it is ok to continue to drive on it, but your fuel economy will suck worse than it already does.

Yes, the S2000 uses a 4 wire heated 02 sensor and they are $184 usd from Majestic Honda.

Part #7.
Unplug the harness for the 02 sensor and check to see if there is any water or dirt. Clean it and then plug it back in. Hopefully that will do the trick.

Thanks for the info.
Is it illustration part # 007? Air Fuel Ratio sensor? I thought I am dealing with the Primary O2 sensor...
Another question, the diagram your link points to is the exhaust manifold system. Is that the correct system I should be looking at?
EDIT: so I did a search in the "under the hood" side and found this post to educate myself about this Primary O2 sensor
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showt...dpost&p=5426967
From this education, the diagram of the exhaust manifold is spot on
I will go and look at my exhaust manifold and try to spot and trace where the harness for that sensor would be and see what I find...
Still anyone with a dummy-proof pic of which harness I should be looking for would be helpful
Thanks again guys!!
