only 1 CO?
OK I threw in my opinion there a few threads back and have now given this some thought. I would like to share them with you all.
I think that to be honest no matter what the term is called and whether or not I am a CO here or not, I am the CO for Vancouver Island. The title CO stands for Community Organizer, and that is what I do. For every event that we put on here on the island, I am involved. Even for events on the mainland I "organize" the island owners for the event. Now don't get me wrong, I still say it is up the the Vancouver forum members to decide, because that is where we all started from.
Secondly the sub forum. Well I really don't care if we don't have a sub forum or not and I don't think that would change my role over here on the island even if the role is not "official" with the site. I still would want to ensure that there are events on the island and that we have representation for those other events, and I am more than willing to be that person (community orgainzer ???). The sub forum could go away though if that would help make the Vancouver forum have more traffic...,
Now for the CO issue..., I would like to see everything just stay as it is. I think Ed is a good CO. He has organized some very successful big events. Who remembers the epic meet of 2008? It was that meet that got me hooked on all of this stuff in the first place. I take my hat off to Ed. Kenny has done a wonderful job in between Ed's epic meets and I think the two compliment each other as CO's for the Vancouver forum. Where I do now have an issue or at least what I see as a possible issue is that Ed and Kenny represent the mainland. They have many events that we can't/don't attend and we have many events that they can't/don't attend. That is expected. If they are the only CO's then who sets up meets and events for the islanders? It won't happen, I can live without being CO as I said it is only a title and I would continue on with that role regardless, However I can only see a couple of things where loosing the official s2Ki CO status might be, One when I was made CO I got access to a huge gallery for images and badges and the sort. It allowed me to post images for owners that were not members yet. It allowed me to produce and implement a badge for the island and help give out Vancouver badges on behalf of Kenny and Ed. Secondly CO status has allowed me to send out PM's based on a distribution list. Now I'm not sure if all people have access to those things now with the new system, but I didn't when I wasn't CO on the old fourm. Since I am a CO I don't see what regular members get so I'm not sure. Those things are important to me and are necessary tools when organizing a community.
How do we satisfy all of this..., well one we leave everything the way it is, or two we dissolve the Vancouver Island forum and have 2 or 3 CO's for the forum Vancouver forum breaking up the CO's based on regions. Kenny and Ed for the mainland and me for the Island. I don't need any special privileges as long as I have the same tools as I have now. I see other forums with three CO's and two CO's as a matter of fact one CO is rare from what I have seen. Ed and Kenny should stay CO's for the mainland no matter what is decided with the VI sub forum, but the VI owners do need to have a CO as well, official or unofficial.
I'm not for or against any of the decisions..., just wanted to share some thoughts.

In my experience, having more than one CO is needed for the Vancouver community. Large events take a fair amount of organization, and if you plan on holding several a year, it becomes too much work for one person. In addition, the CO's have the "title" to open some doors with different sponsors. In the very early days we did some work with various dealerships and in recent times it seems to me that CO's have managed to get some decent sponsorship for some events. It is true that the CO's need to be active to be effective. There seems to be a CO life cycle, where they are gung-ho for the first few years, but then get stale. That is what I found in my case... I was having the same BBQ's, the same coffee meets, and the same drives. There is only so many times you can go to Cyprus, Whistler and Sunset beach. When Cong and I stepped down as CO's, the community was refreshed and the new blood CO's brought in a lot of other new blood. The community is quite different now.
When we first started, the Vancouver folks were part of the Pacific Northwest forum (basically the Washington crew). When we first created the Vancouver forum, the same comments were made about us being too small to have our own forum. The pattern was very similar to what has gone on with the Vancouver Island forum. I imagine that it will continue to grow.

what politics?
i think the main thing is just having CO that is active in the community is what is needed.
sure some people are active in the past, but things interest levels die down, its a way of life.
now i don't know if kenny stepped down or his CO status was taken.
but why is everyone here so scared of change?
