Valve retainers
It was great meeting all at the meets this year (thanks Kenny) but was thinking alot of us have AP1's has anyone checked to see if there spring retainers are cracked. It seems to be a problem on the early cars, any thoughts??
are you the one with my "twin" silverstone...haha..with the sub in the trunk with custom box.
you welcome for the meets though...there are many meets to come...hope you can come out again.
as for cracked retainers i have no idea. doesnt hurt to check them though...cause if you dont then the problem will get worse and worse and then you'll kick yourself for not checking earlier. and it would save you money if you did it as soon as possible. well thats what ive read, using search. i think.

What you are trying to see if these are cracked, it seems that it happens to the intake valves more than the exhaust valves. It seems that with the AP1 motors if you do an over rev, a weak link is the valve retainer, they can crack, and this can lead to a failure. I have been looking in the forums and one way was to check the height of each valve. If you find one that is low, this might mean that the retainer is cracked, and it should be replaced ASAP. It only takes about 20 minutes to pull the valve cover and check with a small mirror.
