Fitment will not necessarily be good. There are many Mugen replicas out there and some don't fit well at all. And if they don't, it's annoying trying to deal with it. Even the OEM has some minor squeaking and wind noise from less-than-perfect fitment. A badly fitting replica will be worse, and it'll likely look bad too (ugly carbon overlay, fading, etc). The Mugen hardtop is definitely more streamlined and "exotic" in appearance, although the OEM is rarer, will hold its value far better and might even appreciate.

Don't forget the cost of the hardware. It's pricey.

Yes I know the concern about replicas not fitting. but I'm talking about a specific supplier on the forum that has been known to be selling good mugen replicas. of course 10 out of 10 will be hard to achieve for replicas. however, it has some good reviews from the forum members. hardware (including everything is about 300 bucks). And for the price of these reps, I wouldn't worry about the value holding up. =)

I agree that there is variation in fitment. But I'm curious where you can find hardware for $300? It's listed by Hardtop Guy for a little over $500, and I think his price is the cheapest. It's super expensive from Honda directly of course.

I'm going to see how things go this winter and consider a HT for next year if it feels warranted (though the soft-top will eventually wear out. The OEM is nice but not very aggressive looking, I think it's mainly the back I'm not crazy about though it has a head-liner, defrost and is probably the quietest of the bunch. I like the Spoon top the most but the trunk access seems to be a PITA. Mugen looks great from the front & the back, love the smaller window & the indentation that runs along the top. I find both both after-market tops to look a bit odd on an otherwise stock car.

You are looking at pretty much $2500 minimum for any of the non-knock off tops. The knock off's run from $800-$1600ish (more for CF) depending on the model and the hardware to attach it is usually not included.

Totally agree! But I think the car needs a big wing to complement the Spoon top. It's so impractical, you might as well go all out. But then I love the entire Spoon kit. I'd love to get an AP1 and go full Spoon.

Ya a shop on the forum is selling the race hardware for 300 and street for 350. if you want i can pm you the link. but if you browse s2ki you should be able to find it.

I think everything from Honda directly is expensive. =) . but the way I see it is that hardware includes some window liners, a glass, and some brackets. I don't see that the 350$ one can go wrong.

+1. I think the spoon hardtop is over rated. It will definitely look good on a more aggressive set up. I think that if the body doesn't really match it makes the car looks a little like a shoe.
