Default **URGENT** Wheels help please

Hi Guys,

I need some urgent help please. I am a complete noob when it comes to wheel specs, but have been trying my best.

Basically I have been looking at wheels a while, and decided to go with the 'team dynamics pro race 1.2' because they can custom make the sizes, and get the offset right.

My car is standard, with no mods what so ever.

I wanted to go with 17 inch.

I had a look at your wheel fitment guide, and started from there.

When I first contacted the Wheel dealership, they contacted team dynamics directly and asked them for what specs would be suitable. and they recommended :

7.5x17 5x114 et45
8.0x17 5x114 et35

215/45R17 PRIMEWELL PZ900 91W XL
235/40R17 PRIMEWELL PZ900 90W

What I learnt on the forums was that 'For the rear:
Offsets below 40 are not recommended for the rear because a tire narrower than the stock tire would need to be used to avoid rubbing.'

I told them this, and they were firm and said this is what the manufacturer recommended for your car, and they trust the manufacturer.

I thought okay, and decided to go ahead with them, but the last week before I placed the order, they got another quote for me, and this time they suggested:

7x17 et45
8x17 et48

Which was closer to what the forums recommended? So I was happy.

4 weeks later I receive the wheels, only the offset are wrong, and they have used offset of e33. This is what they delivered:

7x17 et 45 Front 215/45/r17 Front
8x17 ET33 235/40/R17 Rear

Now I have been having a nightmare trying to resolve this, as they are insisting this is correct for my car, as long as there is no rubbing, and there is clear space I should be okay. I have tried them on and they seem fine, loads of space, I have taken the car out for a drive, and the handling seems better.

But I am still not sure because of the difference in offset, it just seems weird my stock wheels had lower offset on the front before, and now they are greater. I told them this, and I have to wait for the manufacturing company to open on Tuesday to confirm.

Will these wheels be okay for my car? Please guys urgently need your help, even Honda are useless to answer, I always thought every car has a set offset and you can't just stick any wheels on because it will throw off the balance, and what Honda and not how Honday would have designed the car.

7x17 et 45 Front 215/45/r17 Front
8x17 ET33 235/40/R17 Rear

What are your thoughts? Shall I keep the wheels and tyres, will it be okay, my main concern is the offset, if anything it's the wrong way round to what the stocks were.

Any help appreciated.

There is a lot going on in this post so I'll try to cover everything the best I can. First of all, they clearly have no idea what a stock S2000 fitment is. If you are looking to keep things near OEM spec, AP2 wheels are 7" +55 front and 8.5" +65 rear.

Your new front wheel will stick out 10mm compared to stock, not bad and you could fit a 225/45 tire without rubbing. The rear is .5" narrower than stock but will stick out 26mm. You are going to have rubbing issues if you try to run anything wider than a 235 rear tire.

I don't know what your goals are. I am going to assume you want stock like or just slightly more aggressive fit. I'd go 8" +55 front and 9" +55 rear. That would allow you to run 225/45 front and 255/40 rear tires without rubbing while giving you a slightly more aggressive look.

That said, I think the front wheel you have now is acceptable if you can't return them. The rear is not ideal at all, I would look for something wider with a higher offset. Also, don't cheap out on tires, that will make the biggest difference in handling. Good luck.

I would return the wheels. What were they thinking. Order 8+50->55 fronts. 9.5 +55-->65 rears. Yours are way wrong and just silly. I would return and say what the he'll were you thinking!?!?!?

Thanks for all your help guys. I really appreciate it.

I am a bit screwed, I have been driving the car around quite a bit today, just trying to get a feel.

My main aim was just to get some nice looking alloys, without detracting from the drive, keeping it as similar to the standard drive as possible, maybe with some better handling.

I always thought the stock wheels were:

Front:
16" x 6.5", +55 offset, 205 tire
Rear:
16" x 7.5", +65 offset, 225 tire

What I really need to know now is whether the wheels they have supplied will cause me problems, or will I be okay with them and have a good drive like I used to? If it's all screwed up bad, I will put up a fight and demand a change.

I have no rub on any arches/fenders, and the drive seems okay.

Thanks again guys, I really don't understand how people in these companies can claim to be experts, it's shocking.
