Default 225 front 255 rear on 18 x 8 wheels?

Hello,

When I bought my car it had 18 x 8 aftermarket wheels on it with 225 x 40 x 18 tires front and rear. Now that the tyres are almost worn out I am deciding what to replace them with.

If I go with 225 x 40 x 18 tires front and 255 x 35 x 18 tires rear I end up with overall wheel+ tire diameters on 637mm front and 635mm rear.

I am a no tyre expert so my questions my seem pretty basic, please excuse my lack of knowledge.

Is this the kind of overall diameter I should be looking for front and rear?

Am I correct in assuming that I should try and keep the overal diameters front and rear as equal as possiable to each other.

Has anyone had experiance with 255 x 35 x 18 tires on 18 x 8 wheels and do they seem to work?

What kind of offstes would work with this tyre combination? ( I have the range from the stickied thread but how do I know whether to use 53 or 57 offset foward for eg).

I run the same 225-40 and 255-35 set up and there are no problems at all. It is slightly larger than stock, but not a difference that will cause problems. My 255 tire is sitting on a 8.5" wide wheel, so I can't help with the 8" wide tire question. An offset of 53 would work fine.

Tassill, my only concern with your setup is that rear 8" wheel is not recommended for the 255 series tire. The recommended wheel width is 8.5-10'. You can run that size on the 8" wheel, but the advantages of the wider tire will not be realized.

255 will work fine. Lots of other guys have done it.

If your wheels arn't the right offset a 255 may not fit. What offset are your wheels?

^I think he has a choice of 53 or 57, either of which would be fine. The 53 would actually be tucked more than my 55 offset 8.5" wide rears.

/\
He has 18 x 8 wheels, he hasn't stated the offest of his wheels yet, only what the stickie stated the offset range on the tire he wants to run is.

I would run 215/40/18's and 245/35/18's on non staggered 18 x 8's, if the offset allows.

My S has a 215/255 stagger. Did you spin the tires easily with the 225 rears?

I am not sure what the offset is on my wheels to be honest. I cant find information on them anywhere. I guess I will pull one off and give it a measure.

Yeah, if you pull one of them off, it will be stamped on the back of the wheel. it will be "## et" check them out.

Actually the 255/35R18 does not work fine. You may be able to get them on but they are beyond the size range for the wheels.
I would stay with the 245/35R18.
