Default 245/35/18 alternatives?

Hey guys, I had a questions that I thought some of you tire gurus may be able to answer. I have 18x7.5 +50 and 18x8.5 +52 Volks currently on 225/40/18 and 245/35/18 Yokohama S.Drives. It's time to replace the tires but I was wondering if I can run a 245/40/18 (or another size) on the rears instead of 35? I'm lowered on espelir springs so I don't know If I'll rub (the rears are not as low as the fronts). I'm asking because it's getting really expensive buying 245/35/18 and there's so many more cheaper alternatives in 245/40/18. Thanks

245/35 or 255/35 is the size you need. You can run a taller profile, but your gearing is going to be taller (which makes your car slower) and the speedometer will be off.

I just checked Tire Rack and it looks like the S Drives are some of the cheapest tires in that size. I don't think you can get much lower in price without dropping back down to 17" wheels.

thats y i went with the nitto nt555's instead of the dunlop direzzas in 225/40-255/35 size. the 300-vs-140 treadwear helped me decide. i too am lowered with espelirs but also konis on lower perch

I would not run the 245/40R18. They are an inch taller than the OE tire and you already have the car lowered. They would also be about 3/4" taller than the front tire which can throw off anti lock brakes. If you want to go to a different size it would need to be a 255/35R18 but with that offset you are going to need to roll the fender lip.
