Thumbs up 245/40 or 245/35 18s?

I'm looking for a pair of 245/35/18 shoes and a couple of tire shops have recommended I get 245/40/18 instead... One said that he does not recommend 35 at all as it could pose a safety issue and loss of traction? Why are they saying such things? The other said that its simply cheaper to get 40mm sidewall...

My ride is slightly lowered, how would getting a 245/40/18 tire on the rear affect my wheel clearance?

245/40-18's are nearly an inch larger in diameter than stock.

I would get the 245/35's.

Do not run the 245/40R18. They are too tall.

I have been running 245 35 18 on the front for 2.5 years and 35K miles with no problems. 245 40 18 would be too big.

I'm just saying there is nothing wrong with the 245 35 18 tire size, from a safety or performance perspective. I agree the OP is talking about running 245 35 18 on the rear.

Yes, I run 245 35 18 on the front and 285 30 18 on the rear.

Front rims are 8.5" wide with +58 offset, WorkMeister S2R. Lowered about 1.5" and run -1.8 degrees camber.
