Unless you're measuring your speed with GPS, the difference you're talking about might just be the change in speedometer calibration.

Yes and the ap2 runs a 245 on the same 8.5" rim

255 can be run on the 8.5"

Just as a 225 can be run on a 7" wheel, but a 205 is a more optimal fitment for the 7"...so would a 245 fit best with a 9" or a 255 to a 9.5"

The more optimal the fitment, the better the increased steering feel and handling of the car. When the tire is mounted to a narrow, less optimal, fitment the steering feel will become more vague with the excessive sidewalk deflection.
