4.5 year old tires destroyed
This was not on our S2000, but on our 2017 Civic Type R. Original Contis, DOT dated 13th week of 2017, 6,000 miles on the car and tires, in So Cal. Always garaged. This last weekend took it to the autox and after a few runs, discovered this. I assume if we try to get Honda or Continental to do anything about it, we'll get all sorts of push back that at 4.5 years old they are "close" to the suggested 5 or 6 year mark for checking tires - though well short of the 10 year replace line. And I'm sure they will say it is really a "passenger car" and autox is outside of its design and certainly outside its warranty. But does anyone have any suggestions or experience with trying to push Honda or Continental on this?
I still shudder to think about what could have happened if we didn't catch this and the next run the tires blew out mid corner.

Yeah I don’t see any way they are going to cover a wear item 4.5 years into their use especially if you say it was from auto x. I’d say you got pretty decent use out of those and if they weren’t getting close to needing to be replaced the auto x pushed them to that point faster than street driving did. Might be smart to get a set of auto x wheels and tires and have tires for street duty. Otherwise you’ll just have to be ok replacing tires more frequently if your going to use the same tires for street and auto x.

I suspect that even a new set of the same tires would have had the same issue. I've seen this happen before with nearly-new non-track tires that were over-driven on a track. By over-driven, I mean not being sensitive to the feedback from the tires that they are starting to slide and reducing throttle and or steering input. Raising tire pressures will help, but the stock suspension settings will not be kind for a high HP front wheel drive car.

That is very typical for an all season that has been autocrossed. I believe these were the SportContacts though, which are summer tires, but not as aggressive as most of the pointy end autox tires. I assume this is just typical street tire on a nose heavy FWD without a bunch of camber kinda wear. Time for some yokes, 660's or something similar if you want to autocross it much. Even some RT615k+ or RS4's would last well for that. They would not be super competitive but likely will not chunk out like that.
