Default Advan versus Azenis

Currently on my car I am using a set of Advan A032R Tires - yet as some of you may know they are being discontinued for the new Advan A048. I am trying to decide between this tire or picking up a set of Azenis RT-615 slighly used from a member on this board for a great price!

I am looking for an overall better sticking tire in dry weather. My S2000 is mostly used for spirited driving in dry warm weather. I very very rarely take her out in the rain, so tread pattern doesnt matter to me. As well, I only put about 6-10k miles on my car a year - so tread rating doesn't really matter either!

Does anyone have personal experiece with or can speak on behalf of someone who has used both or either of these tires?

Thanks in advance.

Well, the A048 is an R-compound tire, the Azenis is not. I'd expect more dry grip out of the A048. Especially if you can get the M (medium) compound instead of the MH (medium hard). Over at www.elisetalk.com, Randy Chase and Robert Puertas have had the A048MH, A048M, and Azenis RT-215 on their Elise. You might find their comments posted in the "suspension" forum, or query them directly.

The RT-615 is more fairly compared to the Advan AD07. GRM did a test of these. I believe they liked the RT-615 a bit more, but it had similar heat issues as to the RT-215, so they might get gummy on a long run (i.e. track), but should be fine if they're given time to cool (auto-x). The A048s are R-compounds, as mentioned above. They're stick more while having a much shorter tread life span.

Turns out the owner of the Azenis is a track instructor who has used both the A032R and the RT-615. He says that due to road noise he prefers the Azenis over the Advan's. He also stated that the Azenis start to slip a tad bit before they fully let loose - which the Advan does not, it just instantly breaks traction once you hit the limit.

Makes sense, the A032s are about the loudest tire around. The Azenis are a good 3 season street tire but are NOT r-compounds.

The A048 is also pretty loud. Why not get a set of Victoracers?

Not sure, haven't really done much research on many other brands of tires. After being so happy with the A032R I just determined it would suit me well to swap over to the A048's once my 32R's went bald. After recently seeing a thread and hearing a bit about the RT-615's I decided that I might want to do some comparisons.

The 32s and 48s are going to stick better than the Azenis. The RA-1 is also a nice tire that I use for the weekend street/track/autoX but they do not come in a 225/45-17 front.
If you really want that extra stick and if you only use your car for events or weekend driving in dry weather I would stick with the 32 or 48s. If you are not tracking often or autoX frequently I would go with the Azenis.

If the weather is bad or even looks like it could rain, I don't bring the car out. There are very few times this year when I drove her in the rain - most of the times was due to the fact that it was raining on the way back from an event.
With the recent information - I think I'll be sticking with A048's.

Thank you all!

I am running the RT-615's, they are super quiet. Overall I am very happy with this tire.
