Default Anyone got basic steps to refinishing wheels?

I just bought this 92 prelude to replace my integra as a DD. I figure i drive the hell outta it till it falls apart and then make it into a nice little project car.

I would get new rims for it, but the tires that it came with are like brand new. So I figured i'd use these until they're all worn and then I'd get new rims.

Thing is the rims are in rough shape.

I'd like to refinish them, but definitly wanna do the project myself, dont wanna spend the money on em.

Does anyone have a DIY on this kinda thing?

Is there sanding involved? what kinda paint do i use? etc...

Also since the car is stock height and probably will be for a while, (i dont wnanna do cheapo springs i'd rather wait till i can afford some nice coilovers) what suggestions for rim color? I was leaning stock silver, or something pretty shiny, no crazy colors or chrome. What would be closest to polished aluminum?

Any help or directions would be helpful.

Thanks!

Starbai,

There's a lot of information out there on refinishing. Here's a few links to get you started:

And here is a shot of my sled wearing refinished MY01 AP1 rims. They're pearl graphite with silver lips, gloss black aluminum valve stems, and Rick's "S" hub emblems.

No sweat. I had all those bookmarked from the research I did late last Fall before deciding what to do for my S2K.

ok bob. Thanks for the tips and site suggestions. I used them and I did the rims on the prelude this weekend.

It worked out well except I couldn't tape off the tire beacuse nothing would stick to it. (tape or otherwise)

so I made a template out of cardboard and just put it over the tire with a hole for the rim which I sprayed through the hole.

Problem is now I have over spray on the tires.

Can anyone suggest a way to remove paint from teh tires that wont do any long term damage to the tires?

Thanks
