I needed an extra set of wheels so I could run winter tires. I saw no reason to go to 17s, I got 16x7 and 16x8 and run OEM sizes on them. Not for originality, I've just never subscribed to the idea that "bigger = better"... I've done a fair amount of track days with the car over the years (usually on 225/245), never felt tempted to get 17s.

Thought for sure I'd seen someone ditch the 17s for 16s again. But yeah, that's an anecdote I'm not 100% sure on. I ditched my 16s for 17s and never looked back.

I'm having a really hard time finding a set of used AP2 wheels in Sweden and am therefore thinking of buying Toyo R888R for my AP1 rims in 205 front and 225 in the rear. Is it really necessary to have that extra 245 in the rear??

NO, 245 rears are not "required". I wish they'd just delete that stickie...

Yea, that 245 in rear thing is out of date imo. I use 205/225 and it is fine.

Default V2’s on AP1

Sensing a pulse on this thread...

Recently purchased used AP2 V2’s for MY00”.
Rubber I’m using Bridgestone Potenza Re-71R. Front 215/45 and Rear 245/40. There are two things I noticed right off the back. One, the S looks way sexier and Two, the S feels way heavier . The S makes 420whp and my gosh can you notice the difference in weight. I was running the OEM AP1 wheels for the longest time.

You changed tires and wheels and it's the wheels fault? What tires did you have on the 16" wheels?

1000% upgrade! This is my 2003, I bought these wheels here for $350 and had them refinished.

Old thread is old but I found this old post.

The weights aren't that different. You did pick one of the stickiest street tires available so wondering if it feels heavier since the tires are that much stickier ie you aren't spinning the tires as much? Pretty easy to weight your ap1 wheels and tires and the ap2 wheels and tires to see the weight difference. Thinking the difference in tire compound and maybe contact patch is a bigger factor here than the overall weight.

Yes. no point in running 16's on a car that already oversteers
