Default Bang for the Bug (Tires)

Hi fellow S2kers,

For 2 years I had my S2k and I have replaced 4 sets of S02. It is getting EXPENSIVE!!!
Are there any tires out there that are similar in performance but cost less?
I need your help.

OEM tires are the best "Bang for the Buck" that I know of. There are less expensive alternatives if you're willing to reduce absolute dry grip.

Lots of choices but Kumho MX, ES100 Yoko, S0-3's, Toyo Proxes T1-S are fine choices. Not as sticky as the gumball OEM's but if you want to stick with them, start buying all the slightly used ones you see in the for sale section from those who have gone Plus 1 or Plus 2.

If you go 17" rims you can run 225/245 combo of Falken Azenis. Cost- just over $100 a tire and they stick like mad.

Wear has been good on my Miata as well.

Have you noticed poorer acceleration or handling? I wanted to run those Azenis but the incorrect sidewall height scared me off (225/45/17, 245/45/17). I ended up getting the Kumho MX that I'm still breaking in...

If you are willing to give up some handling the Kumho Ecsta 712 would be a good choice. The Yokohama ES100 would be a little better handling for a little more money.
If I can help let me know.
Thank you
