Default Best in the wet

Hi all

First post after a while lurking so apologies if I tread on any conventions.

My wife owns an 03 S2000, commutes in it in London UK. I drive occaisionally, usually i use another honda which is much faster and has 2 wheels.

We have had two major aquaplaning moments, one of which ended in a tree and the other fortunately merely closed a major motorway but did not cause any damage.

So far we have been using the OEM Potenza SO-2.

From reading through this forum these seem to be generally considered less than optimum in the wet. We love the car and in the dry it is awesome. But in the wet it is a handful. We thought we were used to it and capable of driving it appropriately. Note I am NOT blaming the car......it is what it is.

From the forum as far as I can gather the Toyo Proxes T1-R seems to be the wet weather/all round street tyre of choice.

Is this correct ? If not what would be better for year round use in a wet country ?

Thanks

S.

SO-3's are the stock wet weather tire of choice for most SCCA auto-x racers. Very good in wet and great in dry. Perfect tire if its a daily driver. Hooisier makes a DOT wet race only SCCA tire also that is very good.

I agree with the S03 for all around performance. You will loose some dry weather all out performance but they are much better in the wet.

If you're looking for something a bit cheaper, the RE750s have done me nicely in the rain here in Seattle (freeway speeds in a downour on a curvy highway). You'll sacrifice some grip, but I find them more than adequate for a DD and an occassional auto-x.

The Bridgestone S-03s are, hands down, the best tires in the wet I have ever driven on. They simply seem to defy the laws of physics on wet roads. They are fantastic in the dry as well, and very quiet too.

May not the stick in the dry as S02's, but pretty close and great wet weather handling. You'll drive like Senna or Montoya in the rain...
