Correct tyre replacement for MY04 wheels
Hi,
I am ordering Honda S2000 OEM 17 inch wheels for MY00. I also need to order tyres and am thinking of going for an Eagle F1 or a Toyo Proxes. My question, which I can't seem to find a definitive answer to when I search is:
What tyre size will I order for the new OEM 17 inch wheels? I think the stock Bridgestone setup is:
Front 215/45/17
Back 245 40 17
I can order TOYO in this saize...should I? I have heard that if moving from the Bridgestone tyre you should change size to keep the speedo etc etc correct?
A definitive answer if the above would be OK would be really appreciated!
Thanks,
Adrian

YOu can stay with the OE setup with 215/45-17 and 245/40-17.
You can even step up to 225/45-17 fr, 255/40-17 rear. Overall diameter will increase by approx .3 inches and your speedomter will be off by approx. 1 mph at 65 mph.
Your speedometer will read 65 and you actual will be approx 65.82. (mph)
Please convert to metric if needed.

I don't think you need to change sizes to keep the speedometer correct. I think that you are thinking of a different issue:
The earlier (2000-2003) S2000s had an OEM rear tire that had an unusually wide tread width for its section width. Section width is the total width of the tire - the '215' and '245' in the above numbers - and tread width is the width of the part that touches the pavement, which is usually a couple inches (several centimeters) less than the section width.
One recommendation you'll find when reading old posts in this forum was, for those earlier cars, to try to keep the tread width the same when replacing the rear tires by buying a tire that had a larger overall section width. I believe the recommendation was to switch from the OEM 225/50-16 to 245/45-16. Because the section width was larger (245 instead of 225), the aspect ratio needed to be less (45 instead of 50) to maintain the same overall diameter and keep the speedometer working properly.
I don't know if anything similar is recommended for the more recent (2004+) cars.

There must be someone out there that has bolted on some 04 wheels and tires on a pre 04.
Anybody?
Pre 04 stock SO2s have a rear tread width of 8.5 and a front of 7.1 resulting in a rear/front ratio of 1.20.
04s stock RE50s have a rear tread width of 9.0 and a front of 6.7 resulting in a rear/front ratio of 1.34.
It seems like the relatively narrow tread width in front on the RE50s will contribute to understeer.
Other choices (using stock tire sizes) may dial out some of the understeer. SO3s 9.0/8.0 ratio of 1.12. SP9000 8.8/7.9 ratio of 1.11. Eagle F1 7.8/7.1 ratio of 1.10.

what size should i use if i am running 17 inch volk 7.5 in front and 8.5 in rear.......will 225/45/17 and 255/40/17 be ok? also if i increase the width to 225 from current 215, will i get more camber wear due to the increase width
