Default Could somebody please explain OFFSETS to me?

What I mean is,

does the offset of a wheel determine the width of the wheel?

performance,...etc?? Any info would be helpful. I saw the recommended offsets for rim sizes, but I dont know exactly, how offsets play a role in good fitment.

thanks

Offset is the dimension toward the bottom that's in blue measuring the distance between the wheel centerline and the mounting surface.
A wheel width is not dependant on the offset but in order to describe a wheel for fitment, both the offset and width must be included.

As for performance, it may make little difference in the a rear wheel drive, but front wheel drive is crucial to get the correct offset! Even 4mm makes a difference for front wheel drive vehicles (from personal experience)!

So, according to the pic above, written wheel width (6.0, 7.5, 8.5, etc) is considered what? Rim width? or Overall rim width?
Just curious!
