I just saw someone mention in the racing section of this site that Dunlop is phasing out the Star Spec. Does anyone know if this is true? Are they developing a replacement?

So what's the going rate for a set of these tires in 225/45 and 255/40/17's?

Yeah, it looks like you can now only get them at tire rack. which sucks, because now, with no competition, they're ~ $30/ tire more expensive.
I called Discount Tire Direct to ask them, and the guy said "yeah, this...other...company was upset that we were selling them also, and pitched a fit..."
Tire Rack, wtf? how is this possibly ok? I'm sure that there's more to the story than this, but at the moment, i'm not buying anything else here. DTD is just as friendly, cheaper, and also negotiates on price.

@ s4play: as of today, the tires will run $656, plus probably $15-$20 a tire shipping. In a month or so, they'll probably be another $100/set :eyeroll:

They're pricier now but still a better price than tires that they've been compared to such as the RE11's. I still buy the Star Specs from Tire Rack. I have yet to see pricing history that supports my2ks2k's claim. They're not constantly increasing in price or else they'd already exceed the price of the more expensive competition.

You forgot the R-S3 and the XS. Both are cheaper and offer comparable or better performance.

5602 miles on the star specs on the front right is bald on the inside. 1 auto-x, 1 HPDE, 3 dragon trips

Alignment checked post events to ensure that it wasn't the toe

Alignment as of 1 month ago
Front
Camber -1.7 -1.7
Caster -5.5
Toe +.01 -.01

Rear
Camber -1.8 -1.9
Toe +.08 +.08 (total .16)

that said...I've debated between the RS3s, R888s, and another set of star specs...I'm leaning to getting another set of star specs

ive got about 10k on this set. the rears are at the wear bars and the fronts aren't far behind. 1 trip to the dragon and dd duties

front
camber -.9 -1.1
caster 6.8
toe 0 0

rear
camber -2.1 -2.1
toe .2 .2 (total .40)

probably will end up with a 4th set but strongly thinking about trying the michelin super sports...if only there was some way to make these last until the new version of the star specs come out...

Soon I'll be in need of new tires and was thinking star specs

But I'm not sure if a 255 will fit an 8 inch rim for the rear.

Currently have 245 sumitomo season tires in the rear
