Default Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs....

I was a huge fan of the RE050's... great dry traction, stiff sidewalls, but the Direzza has won me over. I'm not one to push the limit, but at points where my 050's would start to scream, these things are silent. I really can't point out a difference in sidewall stiffness, they seem very identical. As a plus, the tread pattern is beautiful. Every time I'm approaching my car, I stop to look at them.

The tread wear is rated at 200, but for some reason, after spirited driving, they seem a lot softer than the '140' 050's after the same type of driving. Time will tell. Either way, I higly recommend these tires, payed $599 shipped from Tirerack.

Planning on getting a set. What size did you get? I am hesitating between 215/45 + 245/40 or 225/45 + 255/40 for my 17" rims. Any recommendation?

I went with the 215/245 setup. These are pretty meaty tires, similar to the RT-615's. Could have gone with the 255 but didn't want to worry about rubbing.

My friend and I are going to be doing a comparison test between the RE01-r and the Direzza Z1 star specs at the SESM track day. I personally feel the "star specs" will be a better tire, but time will tell.

I wouldn't jump to that conclusion so fast. I did about 7 days of research on this tire before I purchased them. Tirerack did a comparo of the two, and it's amazing how similar they are. If I can save over $200 on a tire that performs the same AND looks a ton better, I'm in.
