Default Dunlop SP Sportmaxx TT

I think it is on its way to the US shortly but in the UK we have had the new SP Sportmaxx TT for about a year.

Asymmetric pattern, Kevlar pulp of some sort in the sidewall and in the OEM sizes for 17". It seems to be the Dunlop equivalent of the Goodyear F1 Eagle Assymetric although they are all owned by the same company, Sumitomo

Got Five stars from Track & Car magazine here in the UK, also came out pretty well in a big German test here.

So far no disappointment with the handling and feedback in the dry although I have not hammered them on the road to see how they deal once the heat builds up. Likewise have not had to go hard on the braking. The rear certainly seems to come around in a more positive manner with less understeer than I was suffering with my Goodyear F1 GSD3.

I have yet to drive it in the wet. Aquaplaning resistance is meant to be worse than the Sportmaxx according to the Dunlop brochure .

For what it is worth, treadwear rating is 240 which I think is the same as the GY F1 GSD3.

Not sure how it will stack up against the Z1 you get (and we don't) but I guess the TT is more road orientated and Z1 for the track.

Interesting. Like the test with the Bridgestone 50A as a control. Looks like Conti wins, so why choose the sportmax?

To be honest I only found the review after I had bought the tires. I guess you could call it brand loyalty as I really liked the Sportmaxx but it never won many reviews . Tire reviews also seem to be quite subjective and there is not much between the TT and Contact3 it would seem in the German review. Over here the Goodyear F1 Asymmetric has been picking up 1st place in reviews but does not do as well in this German one and I can not recall seeing a Pirelli tire come first in any UK test!

I'm a huge fan of the annual Motoforaren, german (TUV) magazine tests, and Auto Zeitung. The road conditions and driver requirements are pretty different regionally there. A Seat-sized tire for wet Linconshire roads is going to blow on the Autobahn.

The ASM F1 has fantastic EU ratings and no real US following. I used the Conti-2 and was convinced it was a perfect touring mercedes tire, but not for sports cars. I hate the roso pirellis, but loved the old brazilian P7000.

By now I have them on my car. So far I am pleased with the dry traction, but incredibly impressed with wet handling, even with standing water on the road there is no sense of wavering whatsoever!! BIG
