if I mounted a 225/45/17 on a 17x9 wheel, would the tire be streched out?

It would be a slight stretch, nothing crazy or dangerous though. This is a 235/40 on a 9":

You are a little past what the tire manufacturers recommend for the 225/45R17. They only list up to a 17X8.5 wheel. I have seen the 17X9 and they will be stretched.

also depends on the tire, I had some 225 AD07's on a 9" rim and there was almost zero stretch, similar to 1nate7's car
