Default The Hole Truth...

Just curious, I'm going to get the CE28s (seems like every other S2000 has them). Just wondering why they have 10 holes vs most wheels have just 5 for the lug nuts.

Is it for looks, or do they make the wheel stronger in some way? Also are there specific holes for the lugs or will any hole do?

Here is another link to a pick of wheel with 10 holes -->>S2000 talk

It's more economical for a rim manufacturer to make a wheel that fits more than just one car. They put in another set of holes so each rim can fit other cars.
Only one set of holes will work for your car. The other ones will be spaced wrong.

What xviper said is correct for wheels with multiple PCDs built in. For wheels with just a single PCD, the holes serve 1 of 2 purposes: for the lightweight wheels, it's for weight savings and gives them that 0.3lbs (or whatever) edge for advertising and bragging over their competitors, and for lower priced and/or heavier wheels, they're for appearance as they often replicate or mimic the designs of pricier brands/models.

It can also mean faster mounting time (won't take so long to line up for mounting), and this is in addition to what JSR_AP2 mentioned.

it could also take longer to mount.. cause if you're on the wrong set of holes it won't line up..

That's assuming the PCD's are matching.

PCD = Pitch Circle Diameter (aka - spacing of the holes, i.e. 5x114.3, 4x110, 5x120, etc.)

It's not likely that if a rim manufacturer is going to put 2 sets of holes in a rim, they aren't going to be the same. There's no point to it. I've wasted a lot of time trying to fit a rim onto the wrong set of holes because one wrong hole just happened to slide onto a stud.
