Default Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2 vs. Pilot Sport 2

Does anyone have any information directly comparing these two tires. The Exalto PE2 comes in OEM AP2 sizes, the PS2 does not.

Tire Rack (and Michelin) classes the PE2 one category below the PS2.

Jim, is that a marketing thing? How do they really compare?

Thanks for your input. At least in the 245/40R17 rear size, the LI is 91 for both. Although the speed rating is W vs. Y, this has nothing to do with the performance in wet/dry, handling, etc. W is 168 mph - continuous. I think that is good enough.

I had some Exaltos on a 99 Miata that I had before the S and they were VERY loud.
The car was lowered so it had some negative camber and I don't know if that was a factor but I hated those tires. I replaced them with Toyo's and was very pleased with noise and grip

^bump

The tire I am referring to is the Pilot Exalto PE2. Michelin put it on the market in 2006. It is the OE summer option for the Civic SI

The PE2 will not perform as well as the PS2, there are not that many sizes available in the PE2, the PE2 will probably outlast the PS2. I think the ps2 would also have a smoother quieter ride.

I am running michelins pilot sport a/s in 225/255 on oem ap2 wheels and i am very pleased.

PS2 is the bomb. Most tires will not come close to the performance (and price )of this tire. I have read and experienced many great things about PS2s, but PE2s are not quite on that level.

spirx, thanks. Are you describing personal experience, or what you read and hear? I have been told that the tread compounds on the PS2 and PE2 are very similar. I am having difficulty finding AP2 owners who have actually used the PS2, and none who have used the PE2.

There is one member here, Fyrestrike or something like that who was running PS2s on his BBS LMs in black face. He said they were great. My experience came from the tires on an E36 M3. He compared the Yokohama AVS ES100 and the PS2, and he and I agreed that PS2 was (obviously) the better product. I drove around for a bit, they seemed quiet enough and exceptional with grip.

I have a set of PS2s and they work great for me. Noticeably better in the wet and smoother feeling ride. They were pretty quiet for a long time, but now I have about 10k miles on the them and there is a slight roar when you hit about 50-60mph. I like how they feel under cornering loads.

I have not tracked the tires, so if that is one of your areas of interest I can't comment there.

All in all I think they are great everyday use tires. I might even get 20k out of them!!!
