Michelin Pilot Super Sports

Fronts are great, 215s on the PSS are actually larger contact patch than the OEM RE050s, a full inch more. Mounted on the front it looks perfect when you look at a profile of the tire. Handling wise it is also great, the 215s PSS have large channels so it cuts into turns very nimbly and holds the line despite the larger patch.
I have seen 225s mounted on the front on OEM wheels and it def looks larger, and I'd be concerned running them given what I have to share about 245s in back. Michelin doesn't make a 255 width for 17in wheels, and the 245 actually has a half-inch less tread with than compared to the RE050s. Running a 225/245 setup on PSS I would be even more concerned about oversteer.
With my 215/245 setup there is def a noticeable tendency to lose the rear when pushing it. I think this is a function of the contact patch size mostly. Not bad like the car would swap ends, I just feel it could hold on a bit more at the limit. Last track weekend I was running the same pressure at all 4 corners. Next time out I may lower the rear pressure by 1-2psi to see if it balances it out more. At the door jamb pressure I was fully hitting the outer wear marks (Michelin man giving the ground a fist bump )

I appreciate your feedback.
I run 275 square PSS on my Mustang and really love them, so logically I figure I'll go that route for my S2k as well. Just been mulling over my tire size options.

Apparently I drive my car a lot. My rears are at the wear bars. They are done. Fantastic tire. I did have the sensation of body roll when first drivng on these. I dont think it was from a lack of grip but from more grip than I was used to. I came from an RE 50 or something like that.
To the guy who took them back I'm amazed you did so, seems like a false sense of security on those other tires you picked up because these PSS hands down kick Arse. I put these on some time in February. I'm in the market two 18 inch rears at 255... no need for anything else.

After having Dunlops, Pilots Sports and Yokohama's on my S the PSS will be next. I had the tires in the order mentiones, took the Yokohamas off after 3 months. Dunlops and Yokos are LOUD. The first set of Michelins was the best tire I had on my car and when I pulled the Yokos off went with another set of the Pilot Sport PS2. PSS will be the next choice for certain !!!. I was evry impressed by the quiet ride, wet and dry traction andthe longevity of the Michelin. I run a 225/40/18 non staggered

^ Take a look at the first post in this now-lengthy thread. The OP has a couple of pics showing the differences in tread for a staggered setup. The 215/225 up front have larger channels which seem to help out in getting traction up front in the wet, as well as setting up the car to be responsive when pushing through turns.
Not sure if you want that kind of setup on your non-staggered config, but something to be aware of given the differences in contact patches.

We appreciate your request for the Pilot Super Sport in size 255/40R17, sse2k. Unfortunately, we do not currently manufacture this tire. Your request will be forwarded to the appropriate Marketing Group for future consideration.

Anyone know why I am rubbing so much on my rears? 255/35/18 Super Sports as well. I am almost at -3 camber and have rolled fenders. I use to run Michelin PS2 and they didn't rub as much as these. I'm assuming the walls on the Super Sports are a bit thicker. Any idea how to fix this? I don't think I should be rubbing so much with this setup.

1. I put on these tires, 245s, 2 years ago on my 04, hoping to get 25k miles on the rears, but I only got less than 21k, and was very disappointed.
2. I was down to the wear bars with only a tiny bit of room before being utterly down to them; I wanted to get 2k more out of them before replacement this summer, but I went ahead and put the Continental DWS on the rear, 255s this time, since they are rated better for treadwear, and can be rotated since they are symmetrical, so hopefully I'l get my 25k I'm wanting.
