I was very close to ordering a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports for my bone-stock 2006 S2000.

However, I noticed just how bad the rear tires look compared to the fronts, when they are the stock sizes- 215/45/17 & 245/40/17. The fronts have a nice side-wall to them, but the rears have a slight stretch to them. Its not too crazy...but for what these tires are going for, it's enough to bug me.

I'm sure most of you know that Michelin doesn't offer the PSS in 255/40/17...so I was wondering- could I possibly get away with running a 245/45/17 tire? Would that size look ok on the rears? Would it have any negative effects?

These would be going on stock AP2 V2 wheels.

What's wrong with 245/40/17? That's the stock size. 245/45 is taller than stock. I'm asking because you want the tires to be wider on the rear...but 245/45 isn't wider. Its taller.

You can check and see if the 245 MPSS section width is wider than your current tires. Look under "specs". If they run wide, they'll be more squared.

We have a 245/40/18 on our station wagon with 8.5" wide wheels. They are a tiny bit over-square. They run very wide in that size. So maybe they run wide in the 17" variety as well.

245/45 would look worse not mention affect on gearing and speedometer. If you want a 255/40 rear then get a different tire. I know what you mean though, rear is slightly stretched compared to front but not a big deal to me.

Yeah, 45 profile is way too tall.

What you're really seeing is just the round profile of the tire. The PSS has a much more round sidewall than many of the other tires in the same class. I've got the 255/35 on my 18jj Advans, and I can see the same thing.

I agree that the stretch-look on the 245/40 is only slight...but I gotta be honest- it just bugs me. Considering the fronts are so perfectly square, I simply don't like the look of the rear.

So, since I should stay away from 245/45 on the rear...is there a tire size I can switch to on the fronts that will at least mimic the same look as the rears?

God damn....why couldn't michelin just make a 255/40!?!

Their 245/40 might run wide....its worth checking. My friend had them on 17X9's and they were only lightly stretched.

Only real alternative is to change up the tire on the next swap, or just opt for something different on your Advans.
