RS3's are a pretty far departure from MPSS lol. Namely, you're giving up a ton of life and rain traction. Plus the noise, etc.

Added dry grip, though.

Yeah I know they're a completely different tire...just seems like the tires I REALLY want, don't seem to come in the sizes I need.

Sorry if my next question seems ridiculous, but I really don't know much when it comes to tire sizing..

Since I cannot go with a 245/45 in the rear to eliminate the stretched-look that the 245/40/17 gives, would it be possible to run a 205/45 up front just so the sidewalls have a similar look? Or is that just straight-up way too narrow?

It seems like you are almost to the point of throwing performance out the window to accommodate appearance. (By performance I mean correct tire for the job, correctly sized front to rear). I think it would be better to go with a tire that is suited to your needs, but that doesn't have the appearance drawback that concerns you.

The Bridgestone S04 is a _Really_ great street tire. Its nearly as good as the mpss for this role. Since it comes in 255 (stock CR size), and since it doesn't seem to have the stretched look you abhor, I would strongly suggest that tire.

I agree here, wholeheartedly.

OP; tire sizing works thusly:

245/40/17 means 245mm wide. 40% of 245mm is the height of each sidewall (getting diameter means you'll multiply this by 2...because 2 sidewalls per diameter). 17" rim size.

So, a 245/45/17 MPSS is theoretically the same width as a 245/40/17. But taller by 5%.

Each tire and each size has varying section widths. For example...a 255/40 RS3 is wider than a 255/40 RE71R. Because 71R's run closer to a true 255mm. RS3'S run wide.

205/45 is a very bad idea.

I am not certain that the MPSS comes in 215/45/17. Maybe the car in your YouTube link has 225/45/17 front and 245/40 rear. That may explain why the fronts look squared off and the rears don't. Because the 225 is 10mm wider than stock.

If that's the impression Im giving you guys, its only because I know nothing when it comes to tire size, because honestly, nothing could be further from the truth. Im at the point where Im about to order the PSS in the OEM sizes, even though the difference in the front/rear appearance is going to bug me.

And honestly, if the PSS's weren't so damn expensive, it wouldn't bother me as much, but since these tires are going to put me back around $1200.00, I want them to look as good as they're going to perform.

The S04 is another time Im looking at. This is not my DD car, so that's why Im also toying with the idea of Extreme Performance tires.

Well...if you're not concerned with wet grip, longevity, and you don't mind HEAVILY added harshness/noise, then there aren't any downsides to EP tires.

The only EP tire that doesn't absolutely suck in the rain is the 71R....which is the most extreme of the bunch when it comes to wear and grip. Probably also tied for first place noisiest.

The RE11 was a "civil" EP tire. But I don't believe you can buy them anymore?

Why so expensive? ~$700 at TireRack

Yep. MPSS aren't *that* much more than other max perf tires. Definitely worth the upgrade.

Side note: wtf happened on this forum. I suggested MPSS a couple months ago to another guy looking for the same thing...and I got called a total idiot for not insisting that the RE71R was the perfect tire for any situation.

Grilla...thanks for the pic. I must've accidentally clicked on the Cup2 or some other tire.

Regardless, even at that price, I know every time my garage door slowly starts to open, I'm going to see that rear tire and think "F**k..God damn son of a b*tch!"

So, as of right now, it looks like I'm going to order the Bridgestone S04 Pole Position tires & going with 255's in the rear just to be on the safe-side.

Thanks everyone for all your input. Greatly appreciated.
