Default Nail in tire, do I need to replace both?

Found a nail in the right rear tire this morning. Its on the outside edge so I'm pretty sure it can't be plugged. Should I replace both tire? My rears have ~15,000 miles on them but still plenty of tread I think 6/32". Thanks

Unless its on the very outer edge like on the 90* corner it can be fixed

Go to an older local tire shop they actually know how to fix tires not just sell you a new set.

New tires are usually 7-9/32" so if you have to replace it just one tire will be ok.

answer from people who will do it right is yes, no matter when you change one wheel (rear wheel) you have to change the other.

car could pull one direction from uneven tread wear.

but if the wear on the tire isnt too bad i would just get ONE new tire... it seems like a waste of money to replace both in my opinion.... but thats only my opinion, and its your choice to judge.

I've heard it can be hard on the diff to have two slightly different tire diameters.

I actually ran into this situation about 2 weeks ago but with BOTH my rear tires. My dad is a mechanic is he just advised me to get the nail removed and plugged, which we did. You can find a kit from a local store like O'Reilly's. As of right now, so far no air has leaked, the tires didn't blow or flat, so from personal experience, i can say that it's holding up pretty well

Ran on a plugged tire for 2 years, and another year 1/2 on another plugged tire. They do hold up well usually.

I had an unrepairable rear tire, both rear tires had 8/32" left from an original 10/32" so I went with only one tire. My thinking is normal air pressure differential could create a rolling radius larger than the 2/32" difference anyway. If it had gotten to less than 50% on the original tread depth I would've gone with two tires, I'm guessing the contact patch would be significantly different at that point.
