Default Need help with a rim and tire. jim?

ok my father has a 2003 SL500 and he just bought rims for it the problem is this. the rear rims is a 10.5 and they put a 275 tire on it. and it looks like the edge of the tire is just about equal to the edge of the rim. meaning if you got near a curb at all there goes your rim. i was thinking the shop should have put on 295's. wouldn't a 295 fit on a 10.5 rim? thanks

You don't mention what the diameter of the wheel is. In a 19" the 295/30R19 is a good way to go. The factory size tires on the car with the sport package is a 285/35R18.
They fit a 10.5 wheel no problem.
