Need input on 17" fr 18" r
Hey guys I tried doing a search, but no luck. I would like some input on a 17x8 up front with a 18x9.5 in the rear giving the car a rake. Any advantages? Disadvantages?
There's a local guy selling 2 17" rpf1s and there's a set of 2 18" rpf1s in the marketplace. I just thought I could piece the two together for a decent price. I'm all about function, so I'm not trying to do this for attention whatsoever.
Thanks guys

Your going to be hard pressed to justify the purchase for functional advantage, but if you pull the trigger your going to have to start thinking hard, to say something creative, becuase a lot of other S2k guys are going to ask why your wheels look funny.
If you have a pre-2006 I say go for it. But if your car is newer than that, your VSA will not like the different sizes. I had the wrong profiles on my rear tires for a while, and the VSA would hold the throttle open when I let off the gas because it knows the rear tires are spinning slower than the fronts.
I had 17 front and 18 rear setup once.
The front one stayed exactly the same size 215-45-17 but i went with 245-35-18 to match the stock's over all diameter.
By calculation,a 245-35-18 tire is less than 1mm taller than stock's 245-40-17.
I dont know if there is any advantages or Disadvantages.

Personally not a fan of what you're thinking of doing, especially on an S2000. Looks are very subjective and you should do what you want regardless of others opinions.
Anyways there are no advantages and the only diadvantages I can think of are:
1. the cost- tires for 18s are much more expensive.
2. weight- the car will accelerate slower and the handling charastics may change since more unsprung weight is even further from the hub.
3. More potential to bend a wheel- Shorter sidewall meas less prtection from anything you hit or run over.

i say go for it. as been said above, the correct tire will not alter the ride height.
just curious, did i read the ap1's tend to oversteer?

i'm thinking about the same thing. i was thinking of 17" rpf1 (225 or 235) and 18" pf1 (255 or 265). yes, 2 slightly different rims. the tighter spoke lines on the smaller front wheel with the more spaced look of the pf1 to accentuate the larger rear rim. i'm not even sure if the pf1 comes in an 18". ha... just foolin with the concept today...

I think this video should cover your oversteer question My link
Now that I've been thinking about it and as few of you guys pointed out. As long as the total diameter of the wheel adheres to stock spec, there is no disadvantage or advantage. Duh! I just like the way nsx's look with a 17/18 set up. Thanks for the input fellas

Keep in mind that cars like the NSX and Corvette that run factory staggered wheel diameter also run staggered tire diameter. That way the tire sidewall height is the same even though the wheels are different diameter. If you were to keep factory S2000 diameter as you are planning, you will end up with more wheel/less tire sidewall in the rear.
