Need new tires in the rear for a 17"
Howdy tire wizards...
So first things first, I searched first, and all the posts that came up were from 2002, 2003, etc... Since then, there have been tons of new tires to hit the market, so I feel justified in starting a new topic.
Anyhow, I have some 17" ASA's on my AP1 (came with the car) and my rears are pretty much totally bald.
I was looking on Tire Rack through our "Upgrade Garage" but they're still pretty pricy.
Anyhow, value would be nice, but I want a good performance street tire with a good rating.
The dealer offered my some Falken Azzeni's for the 17s that are a W rating, for $115 a piece which isn't bad... but then again I've never ridden on Falkens so I'm not sure if I want to start experimenting now...
I live in Northern California, so driving in the wet is a rarity, and for the most part, its a cool 60-80 degrees year round so I could live on a summer tire all the time.
What are your thoughts on tires? What would be the best bang for my buck, and what would the best tire be regardless of price. I just dropped some money on general maintenance of the car, but obviously if I can't keep the rubber stuck to the tarmac its pointless.
I look forward to the responses. Thanks all!

Price : Performance ratio is pretty high on those Star Specs, though I've never heard of them. (For others: Dunlop Star Specs)
Whats interesting is I just saw a special on Tire Rack for some Pirelli PZero's in my size for $133 a tire for the rears, while the fronts are $224 a piece. Not bad, but are PZero's still relevant, or are they just a brand name at this point with a premium?
Thanks for the suggestion JP $

What tires do you have up front? You'll want to run rears that are a good match for them.
Or you might consider replacing all four and selling the fronts on craigslist if they still have some tread depth.

keep all 4 tires the same . Star specs are pretty much best bang for the buck for performance / price . Tire rack just did a review on a few diferent tires . Its in this forum search and you will find it

I'm not sure I can afford all 4 at once, but I'm definitely looking to match up the front next month (next pay cycle)
So the Dunlops still reign supreme? Sounds good.
ZDan, I think I'm running Potenza's all around right now, and I'm actually pretty satisfied with the tire, but the performance in the wet sucks. Though, it rains like 30 days out of the year here, so its no big deal.
thanks all!
