Default OEM front rotors

Not sure if this is the right forum...

I'm told by my dealer that my OEM front rotors need to be replaced due to a lip that's forming on the outside of the rotor. (If you're looking at the rotor, imagine the top and bottom edge were the pad doesn't touch is forming a lip) He stated that due to the high pressure and temperature, the rotors have compacted.

The rotors have 25k miles on them with 7 track days total. This is the second set of front pads I'm on and after the first set of pads the rotors were cut (turned).

Is this lip wear normal? I'm going to a 2 day track event in 2 weeks so I don't mind being cautious but I'm not anxious about spending money if I don't need to.

I'm a fairly aggressive driver, just put on Yoko Neova Advans so there's been more spirited driving as well.

My pads def need to be replaced though, both front and rear (.25mm front/ .75mm rear)

Thoughts please...

The lip in and of itself is not a big deal, its the rotor thickness that is important. If the thickness is within acceptable limits you could turn them again to regain the look, feel and performance of original. Rotors do not compress! However if the wear has reduced the rotor thickness to less than recommended or there are cracks showing for excessive heat and racing pads replacement may be in order. I am considering the ADVAN Neova's as well on my S. How is the fitment, ride, handeling, etc. with 225/45/17 fronts and what size rears did you chose?

I agree that the thickness of the rotor is the key. The pad is never going to contact the area where the lip is so it should not be a big deal. I would say that if the rotors were turned once there probably is not going to be enough material to turn them again.
If I can help let me know.

If you are still running OEM pads that need to be changed before the track event, you might as well get new rotors. For track use, rotors are just another "wear" item like pads, tires ans fluids.

I've come to the conclusion that rotors are wear items and have picked up an OEM set for the track along with Cobalt GT pads.

I'm running F - 225/45 17 R - 255/40 17 and think these tires are amazing. I've put 600 miles on them and really look forward to the track the following weekend to see what they can do.
