I have a lowered car and my tires in the rear are angled in a little even after an alignment. I know this will happen, as my car is quite low and I cannot get the tires to be perfectly straight in the rear.

My question is can I play with the tire pressure to try to not wear out the inner tread so much?

What should my rear psi be set at to try to get even treadwear?

I don't autocross or drive my car really hard in the turns,

Got the Avs100's installed last Saturday, 205/55 front and 245/45 rear on stock wheels, I have about 250 miles on them, so far the ride quality improvement over the S-02's is just amazing.

My car is a 02" stock spring/shock combo, I was thinking about going to a slightly softer progressive rated spring to loosen up a bit, but after the Yoko's, I am very happy with the ride, the S-02's were actually causing my stock Cd player to skip on a daily basis, tire pressures where changed between 30 and 35 psi in all combinations, seemed like 32 front and 34.5 rear was the best combo for ride and performance.

So far, the performance is ok, very predictable though, easy to slide the car around in turns, very progressive, running 33psi front and 34 psi in the rear, will experiment. I have no idea about its ultimate dry/wet traction capability yet, I will have to give it another 500 miles before posting a judgment on that subject.

Will repost once tires are run-in. I am doing the "spirited group run" in FC2003 on these things in a couple of days, hope they are up to it!!! Slide baby, slide!

Overall, very happy so far!! Cheers, Soy

I've decided(against my better judgement) to put these on tomorrow before FC '03. I will have to burn off 500 miles(at least) before Friday night! But with the chance of r@!n on Sunday, I just didn't want to chance it with my "comfortably-broken-in" S-02's! The tire is quite rounded on the edges when off a wheel. I really hope that the weight of the car significantly increases the footprint.

Additionally, if you look at the tread itself, there seems to be quite a bit less rubber in the design compared to the S-02. This makes me nervous. I'm thinking that despite the 245 size, softer sidewalls and less actual rubber touching the road will make for an on-edge experience this weekend. Guess I'll have to take the "edge" off at the bar later that night!!!

my rears will need to be replaced before 8000 miles. with this wear, i'm better off running r compounds on the street.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but a lot of s2k's come with alignment specs of 8mm toe in on the rear. That way, your tires are running sideways about as much s they are running to the front! Jim@TireRack suggested a reduction of rear toe in to 4mm (still within factory specs) and the reduction of rear tire wear is unreal! Now some will say that this causes oversteer which can be dangerous for you. And, for those who grew up driving Ford Taurus and the like (where you turn the wheel and count to three before anything happens), I suppose you could call it oversteer. Old guys like me who cut their teeth on Porsche Speedsters, Jag XK 150's and AH Mk 100's and the like would call it "neutral" .

Basically, if we don't reduce the toe in on the rears to 4mm or so, it does not matter what tire we put on them. They will be gone in 10K miles.

Thanks,
Richard

I'm considering using something different when the time comes, if Falken made a Azenis in 245 45 16 I would go in that that direction with 215 45 16 fronts they currently sell, those Azenis are noisy, don't do well in heavy rain but have the stickiest compound + very few grooves and the price is right.
Another tire I regret does not have a 245 45 16 is the Kuhmo Ecsta MX, this one would do better for track days because it can take the heat and it also has a low compromise design, shame on Kuhmo for not making the 245 45 16 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a Comtech adjustable front sway bar, 27% stiffer on the softest setting than stock so I think the ES 100 205/245 16 combo would help balance the car better when I'm on street tires.

Skip,

Sorry to hear that. I'm glad Janet is doing better and will keep her in our prayers
