Default Snow in Seattle

I have finally had the chance to see if my new Pirelli P Zero Nero M+S tires work for light snow, and they do. I just drove in 1-2 inches of wet snow and the car drove well. I was even able to go up and down steep hills with no problems. It will be interesting to see what happens in drier snow pack.

Thanks for sharing. I live in Vancouver, so we currently have very similar conditions. I still have S02s so I'm not trying my car. I have been researching the Pirellis M+S as that seems like a viable compromise (since we get so much rain on the West Coast + some coldish weather).

For your Pirellis M+S, are you going with:
205/55/16 front and 225/50/16 rear?

I did some searching and that's what seems to be recommended (rather than 245s).

I have halfway worn S03 I made it about 3/4 way home got stuck a couple times. The S is actually about 3 miles away in a seven 11 parking lot. Halfway worn s03 suck in the snow. I live in tacoma btw I hate snow so much.

Those are the sizes I went with as well.... I ordered mine from Jim @ Tirerack. When I called to ask him about that he informed me that they do not carry/able to get any allseasons in a 245. He said at one point Dunlop was making one, but they stop the production of it.

I would rather lose a little performance off the top for a tire that I can drive on year round and still handles very very well, then risk getting caught out in the snow in some High performance summer tires....

Prolepsis:

I have a MY04, so 17's not 16's. I put the same size on that were OEM.

WS:

These tires are definitely a HUGE compromise. The handling is good, but, the car feels much looser. I increased the air pressure to 38 at all corners to stiffen the ride and that helped greatly. The tires at 32 are terribly prone to tramlining. When the warmer weather returns in march/april I am going to put the RE-050s back on. As for driving in all other conditions, they are great. Rain traction is fine, cold weather traction is fine.

Hope that helps.

Thanks knlg and Zeemz!

Hmm, looks like I might need to have two sets of tires/wheels too. I am a little worried about the fact that on the M+S then the stagger will no longer be the same. Better start saving up. Or maybe I'll just have to take the bus during the winter...
