Default Snow Tires... Dangerous?

I bought my S2000 used and for some reason, the dood put snow tires on them :S... I noticed that the tires squeel alot... when I upshift from 1st to 2nd during spirited driving, it chirps... same with I down shift hard... I notice some wheel slip... it feels dangerous... i'm thinking I should switch out the tires ASAP... but then its gonna start snowing in 2~3 months or so.. What Would U Do?

Save the tires for Winter, and buy some Summer Tires ASAP.

If you can afford to get a cheap set of rims, swap the snow tires onto them. Then, get some summer tires for your normal wheels. Snow tires are horrible for dry grip...

Several S2Ki members have 2 sets of wheels. One with summer tires, and another set with snow tires. You can pick up a set of AP1 wheels pretty cheap. If your interested check out the For Sale fourm or post in the Want To Buy fourm. Might even want to try E-Bay.

Being I am from Alaska, and when an Alaskan thinks of Snow tires as studded tires. You will need to take that into accound when reading my answer. If they are the kind that arent studded, then this probally wont be much help. I have used studded winter tires since forever durring winter time, never on the s2000, but on my winter car. I have noticed that the studded tires do make noise that you would not expect from a set of summer tires. The best I can describe the sound would be a humming sound, The sound is much worse when driving on dry pavment where there is no snow and under acceleration and durring deceleration from about 15 or 20 mph to 0. In concerns to performance, the studded tires, I have found to have a tendency to slip and slide on dry pavement a lot more than a set of non studded tires would. If your tires are studded, then i hope i helped a bit, and if i misunderstood and they arent actually studded, then i am sorry in advance. If it were me though, and i had to use my s2000 in the winter, I would take the winter tires you have and have them mounted on a set of steelies and get some nice summer tires for the set of rims you have now. I am also jealous of you having 3 more months before winter. Up here we probally have amonth if we are lucky before snow hits.

LOL.. that's exactly my thoughts when I moved to Korea...

Looks like I found someone selling their 17inch stock rims (mines are 16 inch stocks)... i'll buy those and put on some REAL tires... and try to sell my stock 16s.. if anyone will buy them... ..

Plus if it snows.. i'll just take the bus, subway, or taxi... (great things about living in the city)

Thanks for the advice ya'll..

What will you mount the winter tires to?

I'd keep the tire/wheel combo you have now, and then get some Max performance Summer tires for the 17 inch rims.

LOL i know what you mean.
I had to replace my rear tires with snow tires when i had flat tire in PA because those were the only tires that shop had to fit on my car.

And that was the first time riding on other than stock S03.
WOW, instant drifting everywhere!
I didn' know stock tires were that sticky.

You will love your s much more when you get proper tires.
