Thumbs up Speed ratings and tire performance question...

If I can theoretically get the same tire (we'll say Brand X) rated at W (168 mph), Y (186 mph) or Z (149 mph), other than the speed rating, does one tire (W, Y, or Z) perform better than the other in terms of grip, lifecycle, etc?

I don't really hit speeds above 130, so I wonder if there is any benefit to buying a Brand X tire with a Y speed rating vs a W rating as the only difference I can really tell is that they are more expensive...

Any thoughts?

Speed rating is only that, a SPEED rating. No direct correlation with grip or longevity. Z- or W-rated is not "better" than V-rated unless you're going over 150mph.

Higher speed rated tires normally have stiffer sidewalls, so handling is improved. Of course, tread grip has an influence on handling too. Anything over H rating is appropriate in my opinion.
