Squirmy Pole Position S04's. Help!
#21
I got 300 miles/tank with all the tires I've had on my S2000 including the 255 S-04s on the rear. But I'm not computing mpg to 4 decimal places.

That's not calculating MPG at all. If you're just filling up when you reach 300 miles that could range from 25 MPG at 12 gallons to 30+ MPG. It is a useless metric.

I will admit that fuel efficiency did not factor into my tire purchasing decision, nor the purchase of the S2000 for that matter.

Sorry for OP's experience with these Bridgestone Pole Position S-04, but they are some damn good tires.
The only reason why I would not get another set is because... It's hard to beat the value of Hankook Ventus V12.

How would they compare to Firestone Indy?

Good luck making a choice!
None of us have the ability to test more than one tire maybe every three years or so, so what's "best" is a guess based on very little information. Tires are are classed (by someone) in several categories. Summer tires show as Extreme, Max, and Ultra in descending order. Of the tires in question the Hankook V12 are "Extreme" followed by the S-04 at "Max" and trailed by the Firestones at "Ultra." Categories are fairly vague and highly subjective especially when considering "low extreme" and "high max" ratings and similar. Extreme tires tend to wear quickly and be very loud on the road. Then there's Summer vs All Season. Many S2000s are completely happy on All Season tires.

Yeah V12 are at the lower end of performance in the Max category.

I haven't tried the Firestone Indy.
For street purposes, I wouldn't go for a set of tires anymore grippy than the Hankook Ventus V12:
- They're relatively inexpensive
- They wear GREAT
- They don't kick debris up everywhere
- I live in San Francisco where we have stop sign every single block, and grid lock traffic when it's top-down hours, absolutely no need for anything grippier than these Hankook's.
