Hi, I've had the 18" SSR competition Gun metal for less than a year and the two front tires are bent already. I only drive the vehicle in highway and about 4 days in the week. The SSR look very nice, but it has been my experience that they are very delicate. I would recommend smaller than 18" and lowering the car. I'm curious, has anyone had a similar experience with their SSR rims bending ?. Mine were purchased through TIRERACK. :_)

Yes, I've heard the same. I was a Miata guy before, and a word of caution to those owners was not to go above 15", max 16". Same story, way too easy to bend. That having been said, they are still super light and sexy. For a weekender, it might be ok.

[quote name='dispader' date='Feb 9 2005, 07:19 PM'] My fronts rub occasionally on bumpy corners with 225/45's and a 1.5" drop.

So I guess Volks are back on the top of the list... I live in NYC with way too many potholes. If SSR's are that soft they would never last.

Funny thing ! My 18" SSR started giving me problems (bending) since I started driving up to Queens to visit my parents. I tell you those pot holes in the BQE really killed my rims. I would have to say Volk have gotten better reviews. SSR are lighter, sexy but not ideal for pot holes and everyday driving. This has been my experience. I got my insurance company to repair my rims since it was caused by road hazard. They claim they can bend them into shape. I doubt this, but I'll post results. Last time I checked forged aluminum wheels couldn't be re-bent

I've had mine on for about 7 months now with no problems. Both passenger side wheels have scuffed lips due to an "offroad excursion" but that is it. The roads here are pretty crappy as well but I've never been to NY to compare them. 18" wheels would be more prone to bending from potholes due to having thinner tires on them (smaller sidewall).

There aren't many twisties here in goldsboro but I've been to a few great meets in Wilminton and Pinehurst that had awesome roads.

Santo - anything forged can be reshaped. Cast products can't be repaired like that. You would be fine having them repaired unless you want to just get rid of them.

No rim is really pothole proof either, you just have to be careful.

Tel1sps - they are gunmetal

Bronze CE28n's were my other choice but I found a really good deal on the SSR's. I love em. I'm even thinking about having the gunmetal spokes painted black or painting the whole wheel gold.

ps - crappy roads is part of the reason I went with 17's
