Default Stripping OEM wheels for re-coating.

I had the tires pulled off my AP1 wheels yesterday. I would like to have them powdered black.

Im just wondering what kind of coating they have on them from the factory and if people have had success with aircraft stripper or whatever. I noticed the spokes are oxidized looking and it appears as though the OEM coating is pealing in some places. If they're factory powder coated, they can be sanded and re-powdered over top, if not, they have to be stripped.

Let me know whats up

PS. I am aware of the impact powder coating has on OEM wheels and will be using a low energy powder so we're all good

PPS. If anyone has pictures of black or white AP1 wheels on a silverstone, I'd be interested in seeing them. Im on the fense about what color to powder coat them.

The place your having powdercoat them should have a sandblaster, and blast all of their parts like wheels before they coat them. Sandblasting them will remove all the material, and leave a very fine finish. I would only strip them if you are going to paint them, if your getting them powdercoated I would suggest sandblasting/beadblasting, which the powdercoat shop should do anyways.

Do you have to strip them all the way down or just scuff them up?

I sand blasted the first 2 wheels and they turned out awesome. For the last 2 I just scuffed them with a 3m pad and powdered over the OEM coating and they turned out just as good. You dont have to strip them, just make sure they dont have any flakeys or anything and giver.
