Default Tire Question

Hello,

I just purchased a 2003 with 38k miles. It has Bridgestone RE 970 AS tires with lots of tread. I do not drive super aggressive but was looking to put something on the car that would provide a safe fun experience for an occasional track day and some spirited driving. I have no experience with the Bridgestones. I have a Miata sport that has Michelin Super sport tires and I love them. I want to stay stock wheel size(16) but want a sticky of a tire as possible .I was discouraged today to learn the Michelin Super Sport does not come in the size to fit the car(stock)............. Any suggestions?

Thanks

If you want to stay in the exact same AP1 size, but want a better performing set of tires for summer I'd recommend moving up to the extreme performance category. Hankook R-S3, Dunlop ZII *, Kumho Ecsta XS, Bridge stone RE-11, RE-71R (Very grippy w/less tread life), all will be a good upgrade over A/S.

If ordering today, I'd choose one of the two Bridgestones below and listed above in my post, but that could change based on availability and rebates which can influence such a decision (currently a good rebate on the Bridgestones through Tire Rack, nearing the end of that though I believe).

EricJT7 nailed it, not much to add. RE-11 would probably be more what you are looking for since you liked the Michelin PSS.
