Default Which tire is wider

I'm looking for tires soon I'm running 17x9.5 +22 re30 and I currently have 265/40/17 star specs on the rear. I don't have much if any room in my rear over fenders and I'm trying to decide if sumitomo 275 which normally are smaller than star specs would be the same width as the 265 which run really wide. Reason I'm switching is Dunlops keep going up in price and I'm commuting more so htz3 are a better choice also since I'm boosted I need as much tire as I can get in the rear

Not sure what is wider but wouldnt a stickier tire, even if an inch or two narrower provide more grip than a wider less sticky tire????

I'm not looking for a stickier tire I want to run 275/40/17 because there is a lot more tire selection, and I'm worried about 275 being alot bigger than 265. Plus a 300 treadwear rating vs 200 isn't going to be a hug difference on summer tire grip they should both hold the power, except one will last longer. I'm commuting not taking the car to the track every weekend; so Star Specs are unnecessary, or worth the price that keeps going up.

Directly from Tire Rack:

Sumitomo HTR ZIII: Section Width: 10.9", Tread Width: 9.8"
Star Spec: Section width: 10.7", Tread Width: N/A.

There you have it, sumitomo is .2 inches wider sidewall to sidewall.
