I have learned a lot from this post, I really have. What I dont understand is that everyone is preaching "keep the stagger!" But, doesn't the Amuse R1 run the same wheel and tire in all 4 corners? That car seems to handle pretty well. I spent a little time talking with member Diaz who is running the same size wheel and tire on all 4 corners as well and says how well the car handles.

Thoughts?
Thanks!

If you change the suspension tune, then sure, you can get rid of the stagger. But if you are on the stock suspension, it's best to keep running wider tires in the rear. Otherwise the car tends to oversteer too easily, especially when it would matter most like an emergency accident avoidance maneuver or something similar.

People that say that their car handles "better than stock" with no stagger are IMO either 1) running with a non-stock suspension setup, whether it be springs, sway bars, shocks, alignment, or all of the above, or 2) Have not really put their car through all handling tests at the limit and found the truth.

This car is already known to be one of the most prone to oversteer right off the showroom floor. Use common sense... what do you think will happen if you give the car even more front grip relative to the rear? More oversteer. It's simple physics.

Bottom line for the widest tires on a completely stock AP2 is 225front and 255rear which puts you right at the minimum offset. Are there any known max performance tires in these sizes that don't work or work well?

I am debating on getting some 17's and keeping it the same as stock 17x7 and 17x8.5.. if i where to get 18's instead what width would be similar to the stock 17's or does it matter?

what i am asking is 18x7 or 18x7.5 for fronts and 18x8 or 18x8.5 for rears.. and using a 215/45/18 and 245/40/18 tire, similar to the 17's stated above as far as width goes

basically i want to keep the same tire sizes as 17s the only difference would be 18's, which size 18s would be good for these size tires

You don't have to change the width just because you are going from 17s to 18s.

But you DO have to get the right aspect ratio tires, because as you increase the wheel diameter you need to get a shorter sidewall tire in order to keep the overall diameter of the tire as close to stock as possible.

For instance, if you wanted to use 215s front and 245s rear, on 18 inch wheels, you would need 215/40 for the front and 245/35 for the rear.

Cheers,
Ken

Hi Ken:

I just want to thank you again for this thread. This has to be one of my favorite threads here. I immediately open this thread whenever I see new posts. I know it's silly, but I enjoy reading your comments and inputs.

Thanks again.

Hi there.I'd like to change the rims of my S from oem to Volk TE37.But i want to keep the oem size(16") if it is possible(i'm running on oem suspension). The oem rims have these characteristics:Front:16x6.5size,offset:55 and centrebore:70.7/Rear:16x7.5 size,offset:65 and centrebore:64.1.I've checked the volk's catalogue and find that the closer characteristics are:16x7size,offset(they offer 3 different:25,42,33).And 16x7.5 size,offset:30,42.Is there any possibility with these rims and propably with some other settings to my suspension(camber, caster e.t.c) to get close or similar to the oem standars? Will i need to change the dimmension of my tires too?Or finally do i have to go for 17"?Thank you.
