Okay I have a question that's been gnawing at me lately.

A lot has been said about the performance degradation going to bigger wheels and the reason has been cited that "they weigh more". What if the bigger wheels weighed less though? Is there something inherent in it's size that also negatively impacts performance? The reason I ask is because there are a slew of 18" wheels that weigh less than stock wheels and I've seen people sell said 18"'ers with the rationale that the smaller wheel would be better performance (even though I've seen them select heavier 17"ers).
